How to Paint Self-illumination Texture Map in Photoshop CS4

The self-illumination texture map is something you do if you want to light up your 3D object. Something like a lamp, flame or light bulbs.

Self-Illumination do not affect other lightings in the 3D scene.

This is how you create Self-Illumination texture map:

1. Import or create a 3D object.

2. Then select 3D layer and on the Paint On drop down menu you click Self-Illumination (see image below).

3. Select a brush and start painting on the 3D object. Photoshop will ask you to create a Self-Illumination texture map because it doesn’t have one. Click ok to create one.

4. The color white will give the 3D object 100% Self-Illumination, black is 0% Self-Illumination and the gray values are somewhere between 100%-0%.

When using Self-Illumination, make sure you don’t substitute this for bad lightings because sometimes Self-Illumination create unwanted shadows.
