HTTPS security disable & security enable at WordPress.com

HTTPS Encrypted at WordPress.com

You’re sitting in a coffee shop enjoying your free unsecured Wifi using a non-secure network in the Internet café and then you got hacked. Before you even know it, a complete stranger has access to your computer with access to your identity and passwords.

The hacker post spam links, offense images, meaningless rambling and they’re signing all of that under your name on your blog. Then they’re off with your e-mails and sell it to evil spam bot from hell.

Luckily you can stop this from happening by checking off the “Always used HTTPS when visiting administration pages”, use this when you are out using unsecure Wifi networks and not when you’re at home.

Go to “My Account” on your account at WordPress.com, in the drop down menu click on “Edit Profile”. This take you to your profile and personal options page. Check mark under “Browser Connection” and click save.

Now you would notice your connection might be a little slow, that’s because you’re using something called HTTPS, which stand for hypertext transfer protocol secure socket layer. For the non-hard core geeks, it is the same secure protocol used when you buying something online or accessing your online banking.

The HTTP:// in the browser window changes into HTTPS:// and sometime you will see a lock icon next to it. You may see the same lock icon on websites like Amazon or eBay or other online stores.

HTTPS encrypted all of your blog sensitive information, scrambling all of your data, which is good because it stopped people from stealing your information but it’s also a lot of work on your computer or web connection to unscramble all the information, which can caused some slowness but when you are at home make sure you security disable your wordpress.com by uncheck mark “Always used HTTPS when visiting administration pages”.
